While there is much to be said about email marketing in support of your gigs, (which is really promotion/publicity) this post talks about actually getting the gig – the B2B side of email marketing.  Specifically, creating a email list of talent buyers.

Based on experiences gained within the music, publishing, publicity and talent agent industries, the most effective method for building these key contacts and developing a qualified list of buyers is to join professional organizations.  There are many, both national and local, so research your target market for organizations that best match your niche.  Join, network and avail yourself to their membership lists.  By all means, attend a few meetings so you can network and put names with faces and (hopefully!) generate interest in your program right then and there!  People buy from people they know and like, so grin and grip your way to success.

For live performers, start your search using keywords performing arts associations, arts associations.  For speakers, keyword meeting associations, business associations.  We’ll breakdown what to do with the data you amass, and discover additional ways of finding buyers, in another post.
